NFTeasers #3 | Why Shiny Object Social Club is my favorite web3 community
Scoreboard | BYO Pills | Shiny Object Social Club
Welcome to NFTeasers from the Sunday:Drip Society crew. Each week, we explore the wild world of NFTs, from high conviction buys to hypothetical scenarios/predictions for your favorite projects. Occasionally, we feature upcoming drops and share why we’re bullish/bearish.
Our goal? Tickle your imagination on what might be possible in the space. Oh, and give you as much alpha as possible. When we win, we want our community to win as well.

Sunday:Drip members will eventually be eligible for fractional ownership in our DripVault when it launches (a part of our SundayFund). To become a Sunday:Drip member, mint our genesis sundae NFT and join our Discord. The price to mint is now .086ETH (goes up .001ETH every 24 hours).
This should go without saying, but our lawyers would like us to state that all of the content we produce in this newsletter is not financial advice and is for entertainment and informational purposes only. Thank you suits.
Welcome back to NFTeasers. On today’s episode, we’ll break down:
Scoreboard - analysis of our past performance
DripVault Pick - our #1 buy for this week: BYOPills
High Conviction Bets - a deep dive into my favorite web3 community, Shiny Object Social Club
Safe to say you’re not here for my witty jokes or sarcastic rhetoric. Or maybe you are?
Either way, let’s get straight to the numbers. Here’s the performance of our picks thus far:
High Conviction Bets:
Riot Racers Racetrack Land - Bought at 0.22ETH. Current floor 0.375ETH Current gain of 0.155ETH ($650). Feels like price action will hold until further info on game comes out.
Galactic Apes - Bought at 0.95ETH. Current floor (apes+monkes) at 0.56ETH. Current loss of 0.39ETH (-$1,638). Feels like price action trending down. May reverse if game comes out on time (by end of year)
RTFKT CloneX - Bought at 2.63. Current floor at 3.88ETH. Current gain of 1.25ETH ($5,250). Feels like price action will pop into reveal than floor will reestablish lower.
Total 2 week “paper” gains: 1.015ETH ($4,263)
Floor Gen 1 - Bought at 0.14ETH. Current floor is 0.33ETH. Current gain of 0.19ETH ($798). Feels like price action trending up upon announcement of airdrop/future token.
Poolsuite Executive Member Pass - Bought at 0.2ETH. Current floor is 0.78ETH. Current gain of 0.98ETH ($4,116). Feels like current price action is down, waiting on announcement of what’s next.
Total 2 week “paper” gains: 0.97ETH ($4,074)
Not too shabby…but still a long way to go before we can truly celebrate.
Since I got started in the NFT space, the project that has surprised me the most is BYOPills. That’s why they are our DripVault pick for the week.
I’ll explain how to play it in a minute, but first, I’ve got to give a hand to this team for the sheer executional brilliance over the past few months 👏👏👏
While they’ve done a good job of retaining anonymity throughout the process, it’s clear that they have a wizard engineer and a cinematic superstar on their team. If you know nothing about BYOPills, just watch the video in this tweet and you’ll get a sense for what I’m clamoring on about…
The project started with an interesting concept (spoiler alert - I bought 4 super early on). The initial pitch was that BYOPills (Blue Yellow Orange Pills) could become the first consumables of the metaverse.
Wen digital drugs?
Each NFT was a pill packed with different traits and properties. I bought in because I thought it could be cool if there was a pharmacy in the metaverse where your pill could be rented out to other players for interesting on-screen experiences. Imagine tripping at a virtual concert…
This were the four pills I minted 👇
For many of these early NFT projects, I’m convinced it’s just a core team in a basement trying to come up with some “unique angle” to scheme $2M in a highly shilled drop with no downside.
If it doesn’t work, they pocket the money they did receive, let the project slowly wind down over the next few months and abandon (!rug).
For the 10% of drops that do actually have authentic demand, the team is thrust into scramble mode to build a fully thought out story, roadmap, additional utility, airdrops, Discord moderation plan, etc.
BYOPills felt no different until they started releasing the second wave of content and announcements. That’s when I knew there was something bigger at play with this one.
First they made an app that applied custom filters to your camera based on your pill’s traits. Interesting…but not going to get me out of my chair.
Since the initial pill and app release, the BYO universe has made several big moves.
Initially, the team developed Apostles, an avatar project that was airdropped for free+gas to all pill holders. This one was highly anticipated. The BYOKey (needed to mint Apostles) + pill combo was up over a 1ETH floor.
Next, they announced a second airdrop, BYOCraft. These are ships that the Apostles will ride in an upcoming metaverse P2E game that’s in development.
BYO has also announced $TRYP, their in-game token, as well as a new bombshell, BYOLand. For any blockchain based game that gets popular, has the right economic model and survives, it’s almost a sure bet that land owners will reap the biggest benefits overtime.
BYOPills is selling 10,056 parcels of BYOLand starting at 9am ET on 12.16.
The main utility of your land is that you can mine it for resources you’ll need in the BYOVerse to either survive/enhance gameplay, sell on the marketplace or convert to $TRYP.
Each piece of land has different terrain, resources and abundance.
The top of your BYO pill impacts the terrain and how easy it is for you to mine resources
The ingredient of your pill impacts which resources are farmable on your land
The sum of all trip effects increases the abundance of resources your land can provide in any given timeframe
You can see that this team has spent a lot of time thinking through game strategy and has bold plans for the future. It’s interesting to think about if they had these plans from the beginning (doubt it) or used the properties they built into the pills initially to craft the entire downstream experience.
Either way, I love their creative vision and the execution is top notch.
The mint for BYOLand will work like this:
Anyone that holds a BYOPill+BYOVape (the access key required for BYOCrafts) is eligible to mint land for 0.1ETH in the presale. They’re requiring you hold the BYOVape because the Land is dropping before the BYOCrafts are ready
For all unminted land, a public sale will run as a dutch auction (woof), starting at 1ETH and decreasing to .2ETH over three hours
Here’s how I would play it. The floor of BYOPills is 0.26ETH and the BYOVapes is 0.2ETH. I’d buy one of each and grab a presale spot for land. After buying land for 0.1ETH, you’re in for 0.56ETH total with the pill and a soon to be dropped craft as additional assets.
Chances are that the game will require you to have a pill and a craft to maximize playability. If you wait for the public land sale, there’s no guarantee the dutch auction will drop below .6ETH, and even if it does, the land will be the only game asset you own.
As an owner of 4 pills, I’ll be buying all 4 land assets for .4 ETH total. It’s a high price to pay but P2E game assets feel like the next wave to ride in the NFT space.
This is a special tribute for my favorite web3 community, Shiny Object Social Club.
As someone who’s done relatively well in the NFT space thus far (not life changing money, but an irreversible mental switch flip to focusing solely on web3), there’s a lot to be grateful for.
Shiny was one of the first times I felt like I found some semblance of family on the internet.
And if you haven’t felt that before, it’s an incredible feeling.
So what is Shiny exactly?
In layman’s terms…it’s a bunch of extremely capable idiots coming together to build cool shit on the internet.
In “technical terms” from CF’s (dope visual identity designer) Shiny Brand Guidelines…
“We're a community of creators, curators, and builders born in the fires of the internet age. We know what it's like to dive headfirst into the unknown and return with scars and gold. SOSC has one goal - to parse the noise and thrive in the new.”
When I came across Shiny in the Spring, my understanding was that it was a cross-disciplinary melting pot of talented people interested in all things web3, creator economy, no code, automation and tech.
It makes sense why the first few dozen members were some of the best indie builders on the internet — the community was designed to cultivate talented makers and help them create.
I don’t know what it was about the Shiny community, but I felt drawn to it from the outside as a lurker on Twitter.
After looking back at the last few months and comparing it to my subpar years working as a corporate drone, I realized the feeling that drew me in initially was the infectious energy from other talented people that aspired the same way I did.
I was fortunate to grab a Shiny Magpie (#16) for 0.1ETH which guaranteed me a lifetime membership in the club.
After joining and experiencing some fortuitous NFT bounces (translation = most of us degens made a good amount of money flipping pixel unicorns and clip art rocks), the club transitioned to more of an exclusive web3 focus. There are still channels dedicated to no-code and automation, but community-market fit was almost immediately found at the intersection of web3 x NFTs x crypto.
For me, this was a dream scenario because the more I dove in, the more I realized that a web3-powered future is inevitable. Shiny feels like a farm system for the next generation of builders and creators on web3 rails.
Today, there’s over 700 members that make up the community. At this stage, anyone can join if they hold 250 Shiny tokens (~$900) in their wallet (can be swapped with ETH here) and submit an application.
Soon, Shiny will release DAO tokens (animated feather NFTs) that will decentralize ownership of the club completely. Mag owners (those who supported and funded Shiny’s early growth) will receive some for free and the rest will be on sale for .1ETH to other members and possibly, the general public. If this post resonated with you and you’re looking for a top tier social club on the internet, I wouldn’t miss it.
As I’ve onboarded dozens of friends into the web3 world, most ask about my favorite projects/communities.
For me, Shiny is one that I look forward to participating in and growing with over the next several years. The more time I spend in the space, the fewer and fewer projects feel like they have staying power for the long-term. The ones that do will likely experience unfathomable compounding benefits and build community value that rivals the biggest brands that exist today.
Shiny, Bored Ape Yacht Club, RTFKT and Sunday:Drip (biased on this one of course) are the Mount Rushmore of web3 projects that I’m most excited about because of the combination of community, culture and vision.
My hypothesis is that internet social clubs are the new country clubs without location dependence or stodgy gatekeepers.
When you eventually get red-pilled by web3, you realize the power of collective intelligence that is incentive aligned and eager to participate. That’s Shiny to a T.
Mags fly together ✊
